Effective date: June 1, 2026
Animal Island New Tab is a browser extension that replaces the default new tab page with a cozy personal start page. This privacy policy explains what data the extension uses and how it is handled.
Information We Collect
Animal Island New Tab does not collect, sell, or share personal information for advertising or tracking.
The extension stores your configuration locally in your browser, including:
- Background color
- Clock format
- Date and weather display preferences
- Selected search engine
- Custom shortcut names, URLs, and colors
- Weather location settings
This information is stored using browser local storage and remains on your device.
Location Permission
Animal Island New Tab may request access to your location only when you enable weather and choose automatic location mode.
Your location is used only to fetch local weather information. The extension does not use location data for advertising, tracking, analytics, or profiling.
You can avoid automatic location access by using manual weather location mode.
Weather Data
Animal Island New Tab uses Open-Meteo services to provide weather and location search features:
https://api.open-meteo.com/*https://geocoding-api.open-meteo.com/*
These requests are used only to retrieve weather information and location search results needed by the weather widget.
Browsing Data
Animal Island New Tab does not read, collect, or transmit your browsing history.
When you use the search bar, your query is sent directly to the search engine you selected, such as Google, Bing, Baidu, or DuckDuckGo. The extension does not store or process your search queries.
Data Sharing
Animal Island New Tab does not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties.
Weather-related requests are sent to Open-Meteo only when needed to provide the weather feature.
Data Deletion
You can delete locally stored extension data by clearing the extension's site data in your browser or removing the extension.
